The NASA 3-D X-Ray Scanner will provide a real-time 3-D x-ray image of luggage contents making it easier to identify objects that may be partially obscured or camouflaged. To quote Dr. Fernandez, “You would not want to drive your car with one eye closed although you could, but currently luggage screening devices force the TSA agents to effectively be using only one eye.”

The technology is part of an exhibition at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center of Huntsville area patented technologies that is being held concurrently with the Smithsonian Institutes exhibit “101 Inventions that changed the World.”
